About Founder

Neelam, the founder of Samhita Weaves has 16 years of experience in the garment industry.

An avid reader, art history enthusiast and nature lover with a creative bent of mind, Neelam’s love with the textiles began in her teenage years.

She is a psychology graduate from Garhwal University, Dehradun. Pursuant to her interest in the handloom and Indian textiles industry, she underwent formal training culminating in fashion designing from IPW, South Extension, New Delhi and followed up with specialisation in garment construction from National Institute of Fashion Technology.

She has worked as a garment technologist alongside designers in international brands like Next and Target.

The idea for starting Samhita Weaves came about when she was struck by the fascination for Indian handcrafted textiles and patterns from buyers in India and abroad during her stint in the garment industry. There was no proper market from where to source them, but only through middle men who exploited the weavers and artisans.

It is then she decided to procure the Indian textiles directly from the weavers and artisans. She started her exclusive curated platform, Samhita Weaves in April 2017 from her home. It has always been her dream and it is how she stays connected to the wonderful cultural traditions of India, being enthralled as she is with handloom fabrics and sarees. It is through this venture that she has also been advocating sustainable and eco-friendly fashion with the aim of revival and preservation of Indian textiles.

She is a change maker in the Indian textile industry, upholding the rights of the craftsmen and artisans who painstakingly work in creating these wonderful cultural symbols of India.

It is her mission with the vision to promote the wide diversity of Indian textiles and help the artisans and weavers in finding a good and stable market for their products, thereby ensuring a steady source of income for them and their families.
